Day 2

Breath, Sounds & Vocal Freedom

Explore the fundamentals of breath for singing and sustainable vocalising. Discover applied perspectives while releasing tension and finding vocal freedom. Explore and expand your vocal palette by exploring different sounds from twang, belt, falsetto and more. 

 

Day 1 

Opening the Portal

Explore and relax into the voice and its expressions through improvisations, initiations and somatic practice. Reconnect with your creativity, inner child and soul-song. Let go and surrender into vocal possibilities.

 

Day 3 

Rhythm + Music Theory Fundamentals

Rhythm is the key to understanding how to play music with others - it also opens whole new doors of creativity. Spend time honing your Rhythm skills through play and gaining a whole new download on applied music theory for a deeper musical experience.

 

Day 4 

Emotions & Improvisation

Emotions are the fuel and impulse for our expression. Through the art of Improvisation, get in touch with, discover and transmute your emotions into exaltation.


Day 5 

Performance & Coaching

Gather all your learnings and elevate your performance and confidence on this day. Receive individual and small group coaching while working with an actual song or improvisation to hone in on the details & walk away with a new way of singing and being.

YIN LING

Founder, Lead Facilitator & Vocal Coach

Hailing from the island shores of sunny Singapore, Yin Ling has broken through a thick serving of Asian conditioning to pursue a life led on her own terms and a life entwined with music & spirit. Known for her haunting, ethereal vocals, she has been activating voices and sharing vocal teachings for the past 10 years. With a passion for singing instilled in her as a child from 2 karaoke-loving parents, Yin Ling has a degree in Theatre and a background in musical theatre and jazz singing.

Her rude spiritual awakening at age 20 led her on a journey of embodied de-conditioning, a foray into the healing and shamanic arts and a deep dive into the realm of sound healing. With a deep mission of facilitation and service, Yin Ling thrives in teaching fellow seekers to access greater human freedom through mindfulness and self-expression. Voice and music has now become her main vehicle for this impulse. Her facilitation was called by a student as 'warm honey'.

GHIJA

Lead Vocal Coach

GHIJA is a classically trained vocal coach certified at the Conservatory of Vicenza in Italy. She has been teaching different vocal styles for ten years, helping people of all ages and levels achieve their goals and feel more confident with their instrument. In her teenage years she worked as a choir director and focused on collaboration as an artistic director to create shows for many kinds of audiences.

Ghija has been studying and performing many genres through the years, from the jazz standard to the rock hits. Being very versatile in her singing style, she always tries to give her students all the necessary notions to choose the artist they want to become and to express themselves in the best way, Through posture, breathing, muscular control, rhythm, resonance, harmonies, and other important steps, she will guide you through your own musical vocal journey with great energy and passion.

Currently Ghija is the lead singer with Paris-founded Bali-based cabaret entertainment troupe La Joia.

Her recent performance in Paris has gone viral with 1M views on this reel.

JOEL BEAUCHAMP

Music Production, Songwriting Lead & Musicianship Facilitator

Joel is a multi-instrumentalist, music producer and music nerd with over 30 years of musical experience in genres ranging from folk, metal, Indian classical, ambient and electronic. Picking up the piano at 5, drum kit at 9 and guitar at 11, Joel draws from the folk influences of his family and played in the Toronto metal/experimental/post-rock scene for 2 decades. Yoga, meditation & spirituality feature strongly in his ethos and helped in overcoming severe mental health struggles in his youth. 

Music is not genre defined to Joel - he believes strongly that creation, artistry, transmutation and joy is at the heart of every style of musical expression no matter what it's outward-facing symbols may be. As a teacher Joel is consistently emphasising the oft-forgotten essence of music, creativity, music-making and it's simple embodied principles. Joel is currently part of the Hanuman Project as Bansuri-player/percussionist and producer amongst other musical projects.

Somatic Safety & 

Re-Programming

We believe embodied expression AND better singing comes along with re-programming our nervous system, mind and body to feel safe to take up space, be emotionally expressive and embody authenticity. Our curriculum focuses on perspectives, principles, mindfulness and exercises to help your clients achieve this. 



Shamanic Transpersonal Perspectives

AVA is informed by non-materialist, non-dualist perspectives on the nature of existence - we honour the elements, ancestors, spirit guides, gods/goddesses, nature and the indigenous cultures surrounding our trainings and through our own teacher lineages. We often refer back to our eternal nature as a source of solace, unity, peace and liberation from fear. 



Play as Learning

At AVA we believe in play as one of the ultimate best teachers. While technical drills can be useful, we believe in de-stigmatising the act of singing, voicing, music-making and making it natural, fun and playful. We also believe it's one of the most effective ways to train all-rounded skills including rhythm, improvisation, creativity, letting go and more.



Technical Excellence

Finally, we aim to bring technical excellence and perspectives to bolster all the psycho-emotional-spiritual work, so that the vocal instrument can gain flexibility, refinement, control and colour as the expression expands. This includes perspectives on breath, anatomy, vocal emissions/sounds, dynamics and more.

Connected to the elements of play, at AVA we don't wish the act of music-making to be an act that is the future, that will take years of training to worthy of. WHAT YOU ARE TRAINING FOR

This is a complete start-to-finish training, equipping you with the teaching tools and pedagogical understanding to create effective Vocal Activation group workshops and private sessions. At the same time, we stretch and teach you as a individual and facilitator, developing further musical skills and facilitation skills. You will also receive a Handbook with the curriculum within. At the end of the training you will receive a Certificate of Participation, and to receive a full Level 1 Certification from Awakened Voices Academy you will be required to complete and log 10 practice hours, submit 1 video of a group session and 1 video of a private session and 5 completed feedback forms from participants.
